Baby Stamper was born with cataract in both eyes. A condition known as congenital cataract, which means that the lenses of his eyes were cloudy and not able to see clearly. Baby Stamper was being raised by a single grandmother on pension who could not afford to pay for eye care.
The grandmother needed help as optometrists told her Baby Stamper would need high powered lenses specially made and ordered from overseas. The high-powered lenses would work to help him see clearly and stimulate his natural lenses.
Touched by the story of this child’s ordeal several people stepped up to help, including the Eiohn Hayes Eyecare Outreach Program and Cooper Vision. The first set of lenses were installed in January 2023 after a thorough assessment in the theatre that Baby Stamper championed through. The surgery was a success.
Angalakha, affectionately known as Baby Stamper, is now thirteen months old and sees clearly due to the lenses he was fitted with. The little boy has a chance at a life unencumbered by eye problems or blindness. He is due to undergo surgery end of next year (2024). Baby Stamper is a healthy and happy little boy.
